Budapest, a place of understated beauty on the Buda side, and busy cosmopolitan lifestyle on Pest. this is my favourite city during this summer travel by far.

we started our last day in Budapest with a visit to the Statue Park, part of why we are in Eastern Europe is because of my interest in the region's post-war/cold war history and Budapest seems to be, strangely, the only place which hasn't destroyed all remnants or reminders of its Communist past.

a quick lunch, and then we excitedly departed for Szechenyi, the Hungarian bath, (my very first time inside the warm waters), had fun with the jacuzzi, giggled as we went around the whirlpool, dipping our toes into the different baths to deliberate the temperature, sweated it out at the hot baths, watching two men kiss and grope at each other (dawen was horrified), changing in front of other naked women (i have never seen so many nude old ladies in my life before)...and then to the park in front of the castle where a summer fair was going on, where we joined or watched the kids in various games.

to Nuremberg tomorrow on an excruciatingly long train journey. wish us luck.
