one of the greatest joy in life is to sleep and wake - without an alarm clock.

i had my first, and probably last, 'sunshine seminar' today, i wouldn't expect such a seminar when i'm back in NUS. a lecturer, a cozy group of 7-8 students, a green patch of grass and sunshine - viola, a 'sunshine seminar'. i learnt quite a bit about British politics and history from this module. he lectures in an extremely casual manner, which puts you extremely at ease, it seems like its almost spontaneous even. he relates every lecture with everyday issues that concerns the average British citizen/student, must be quite engaging for the British students...given that even as an outsider and exchange student (who previously had no interest whatsoever in British history), i was able to grasp the 'big ideas' that he was trying to put across.

i was so caught up with my USSR essay last night that i forgot to prepare for the British history seminar today and was caught off-guard when he passed around a sheet of paper and asked us to 'write down the two questions that you prepared'. shit, and fortunately i was seated in the middle, which allowed me more thinking time (which was not much anyway, just about how long three students would take to scribble their questions down). still, the backpacking experience proved to be useful - all the small talk with the Europeans we met and their opinions about Britain definitely helped.

and of course, coming from an ex-British colony helped too.

so many ideas...to be put down in 3000 words. i'm going to miss the free access to databases and e-journals when i graduate.

time for bed, and to wake, without an alarm clock.
