we cooked dinner last night at michelle's. my first time visiting her flat at Richardson, it might be smaller as compared to St Mary's but it looks really cosy.

on flats - erik accompanied me to the Accommodation Office on Monday, i talked to an officer and about two hours later, she called and emailed to offer me a flat at Leazes Parade. still trying to get more details, but i'm pretty set on moving.

anyway, back to the dinner - chopping and cooking got a bit tiring after a while, until erik came by and naturally assumed the role of the chef ('this is what separates a cook from a chef' - was his comment when i was only going to warm the baked beans). michelle invited louise, a girl from Hong Kong who crashed her lecture, and derek swung by too. so it was quite a crowd - michelle, michelia, erik, derek, louise and myself. the pictures, are somewhere, in somebody's camera. conversation topics were interesting - food, Hongkong, Singapore, army, gays in the army, Lee Kuan Yew, the price of Singaporean passports, Bush (both senior and junior)...and then we stood around outside another flat while derek and louise were introduced to michelle's HK neighbour.

oh yes, this has to be mentioned. i helped derek peel his orange, because the dude was trying to do so from the wrong end of the orange. something tells me that he hasn't ever peeled his own orange before. hrm. haha.

the eurail tickets that my dad sent to me from Singapore arrived yesterday, i was surprised at how quick it arrived, given that my dad only sent it out last friday. and the postage was only SGD4 as compared to the 5 pounds i paid for postage back to Singapore. well, that's the pound for you.

i met my Literature prof before the seminar today, to discuss about my essay (in place of an examination). we decided that i would research on John Ruskin's perception of the past and the function of memory. nice. i went to Blackwell's to get a copy of the text edited by Dinah Birch after class but they didn't have it. i'll definitely have to check some other bookstores to get the text soon - should make good reading on long train journeys. and during the seminar, the topic of the Oxford Museum cropped up. it was definitely nice, for a change, to know about the places talked about in class. i could visualize the architecture, the glass ceiling, and the dodo bird display made famous by Lewis Carroll. and since i'm researching on John Ruskin's Stones of Venice, a trip to Venice would be justified eh? poor wallet.
